Hell of the Ashdown

Hell of the Ashdown

CONDOR CYCLES SUPPORTED THE HELL OF THE ASHDOWN SPORTIVE THIS WEEKEND. THE GRUELLING SPORTIVE WAS OVER SUBSCRIBED AFTER JUST 36 HOURS. ENTRIES OPENED ONLINE ON THE HELL WEBSITE AND WERE SOON ALL GONE.

The sportive takes its form over an 80 mile course. Challenging riders up the toughest climbs in Kent including Toys Hill, Yorks Hill, Titsey Lane and the Wall at Ashdown. Some of the hills feature during the hill climb season and most certainly spice up this wintery early season ride.

Hell once again lived up to its name, with freezing temperatures chilling riders for most of the day.

Condor Cycles were on site providing Mule Bars at both feed stations as well as gels and running emergency pit stops for mechanically challenged riders.

A Special thanks to Specialized for providing free inner tubes for the pit stops as well as foot pumps to help riders on their way rather than slogging it out using a hand pump to inflate a tyre.

The riders set out from 8.30am will the last riders leaving Biggin Hill at 10.30, most rode over the timing mat by 4.30pm to make it back to the start and grab some grub which included pasta, bacon rolls and soup.

The organisers, Catford CC run the sportive to raise money for the Alzheimers Society and Condor are happy to help riders and raise money by providing free service and energy food.

If you fancy taking part in 2011 keep an eye on the Hell of the Ashdown website. Entries will be available online in October.
