Smashing Records

Ed Clancy and Ollie Wood set a new world record in the 1km Madison time trial at Manchester Velodrome on Saturday night as the Revolution Series returned to the National Cycling Centre.

On a thrilling day of racing Clancy and Wood clocked a time of 54.537 seconds to beat Sir Chris Hoy and Arnaud Tournant's previous record of 54.549sec which was set at the Revolution Series in February 2008.

Clancy, the double Olympic team pursuit champion, was in blistering form throughout the third round that started with a victory in the flying lap with a time of 13.208sec for the Huddersfield rider.

Such was the performance of Rapha-Condor-JLT who took a third race of the evening when Clancy won the scratch race following a final lap escape, that Telegraph All Stars dropped to third overall as the men in black leapfrogged them into second spot.
