RAPHA CONDOR SHARP'S DAN CRAVEN SUCCESSFULLY MADE THE BREAK IN YESTERDAY'S STOKE STAGE AT THE TOUR OF BRITAIN. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WE GAVE HIM A GARMIN EDGE 500 TO PAIR WITH HIS POWERTAP WHEEL WE BUILT FOR HIM FOR TRAINING RIDES.
At the Tour of Britain Dan isn't using his training wheels but has hooked up his heart rate monitor and Garmin Edge to record the stages for us. Click 'view details' on the maps to see breakdown of heart rate, speed, and elevation.
Stage 1 - Rochdale to Blackpool
What Dan said...
"Really hurt myself on the first climb (as can be seen on the HR graph), trying to get in the break. Blew up half way up a climb that was longer than I expected and slid far down the field - suffering and missing the 3 man break that did get away.Once the break was established SKY controlled matters and although it was a nervous day (Stage 1 nerves and no one knew if the climbs or gutter would be ridden steady or flat out), nothing of note ever really happened; finishing off with a fast and straight forward sprint in Blackpool."
What Dan said...
"Started far down the field after stopping briefly in the neutral zone. 18 minutes into the race, jumped across to a two man break - which then became a 20 man break. First 50 minutes were ridden flat out as the peloton came within 30 seconds at times. There after the elastic snapped and we rode more steadily. Gun hill (the peak just after 100km) was ridden flat out and break split brielfy, only 15 men left after that. From 110km onwards cramps started bothering me, so I decreased my workload significantly and was glad to see that SKY was lining up Henderson for a sprint. Hard sprint with two drags in the final 2km. 10th on the day and on GC - rather happy with that."
