A snow filled velodrome makes for fun riding and racing conditions. However surrounding side roads leading to the race venue and hazardous parking facilities are not ideal. The Met office has issued a weather warning and so we've taken the decision to cancel our cross race.
This Sunday (19th December), we're promoting a round of the London Cyclocross League at Herne Hill Velodrome, in South London, as organised by our Designer Ben.
Massed starts and short courses make for seriously exciting races, and you'll soon find yourself battling with the nearest riders around you. It's one of the few sports where novices get to race with national champions, and where everyone gets to compete, whatever their fitness or skill level.
It's also one of the most family friendly events on the calendar, with kids and younger riders competing in the morning, and adult and veteran riders in the afternoon.
To race all you need is a mountain bike or a cross bike, and a love of mud.
Kaaboom are offering a prize at each event to the 'Rider of the Day'. The winner need not be the fastest but might be awarded to a rider who had ridden well after a crash or a mechanical, or who ran to the finish or simply made the event the better for their presence.
Anyone can race; if you don't have a British Cycling Race License you just have to pay £3 extra on the day.
Mule Bar will be there giving out either bars or gels to riders as they sign on.
More details are also on the league website - just click the link.
