Tête de la course - January

Tete de la course

Tête de la course is a fortnightly feature where we summarise the latest products at Condor and why we think they are worth stocking in our London store.

This issue:

  • The Ride Journal - Issue 8
  • Capo Hi Viz Gilet (360 reflective)
  • Fizik Cyrano R3 handlebar
  • USE Exposure Equinox light
  • Velobici Strekker Jacket
  • Battle of the Bikes (card game)

The Ride Journal, Issue 8 - £8.00

The Ride Journal returns for an eighth edition with a bumper crop of light hearted stories and experiences. There is even an entry from Rapha Condor JLT's Felix English. It's a generous piece of print for £8. Just don't blame us if it provokes an unhealthy new obsession with the sport.

Capo Padrone High Viz Gilet

Capo Padrone High Viz Gilet - £180.00

A Padrone, or master of your craft, is a fitting name for the new high visibility wind vest that has just landed from American brand Capo. It embodies all the characteristics that set Capo apart in the apparel business. A zigzag thread pattern runs along the length of the vest creating more surface area keeping the overall weight of the garment as light as possible. The irregular thread pattern ensures that there is more surface to wick moisture away from the body.

Its Capo's proprietary fabric, P-10, that makes the new wind vest literally impossible to miss. The ultra reflective material has crushed crystals bonded to the fabric to give it 360 degree illumination whenever light hits the surface. Additional perforations under the arms and along the back aid breathability.

This is definitely a jacket that will keep you out of the shadows this winter and spring.

Fizik Cyrano R3 handlebar

Fizik Cyrano R3 Handlebar - £79.99

Fi'zi:k have already established a saddle system that focuses on rider flexibility – the Aliante is for the less flexible 'Bull', the Arione for the most flexible 'Snake' and the Antares for the in-between 'Chameleon'. Now the company are expanding the philosophy to include handlebars. Created under the Cyrano name, the three-unit family uses the same Bull, Snake and Chameleon monikers for different levels of rider flexibility.

There are three qualities of bar to choose from: 00 (top model), R1 and R3. The R3 model is made from Ergal aluminium and weighs in at reasonable 240g.

Test kits are due into the store in February.

USE Exposure Equinox light

USE Exposure Equinox light - £264.95

More compact, more powerful but a slightly heavier relation to the Diablo Mk5 (the brightest light in the USE Exposure range). Weighing in at a mere 130g, it has a minimum burn time of 30 minutes on full power. The new lighting system adopts a two-way wireless thumb switch so riders can control the light without having to fiddle with a switch on the unit itself as you ride between low light and completely pitch back areas.

Velobici Stekker Winter Jacket

Velobici Stekker Winter Jacket - £175.00

For its latest winter collection, luxury merino outdoor gear brand Velobici have focused on keeping things bright. The Stekker jacket in celosia orange is as warm and inviting as the Cordura garment itself. There is reflective piping that very deliberately will ensure you won't blend in with the dark surroundings this season. Ultra lightweight and windproof, it features waterproof pockets and can even be stashed in its own pocket.

Also available as the Bouchon Jacket in blue with contrasting orange piping, and as ever designed and manufactured in England.

Battle of the Bikes trump card game

Battle of the Bikes, a trump card game - £8.95

Fixie or Brompton, Pinarello racer or Mongoose BMX; which is the fastest? The most expensive? How about their ride-by kudos, or their crash survival rate? These playing cards allow bike lovers of all ages to play iconic makes and models off against each other to discover who's got the best set of wheels. When you are not riding bikes, battle with them instead.
