John Herety's Cheshire Cycling Route

Former National Champion, John Herety is one of our riding alumni. John for Condor in the mid eighties as a key part of the Percy Bilton team before taking up a managerial role at British Cycling, he is one of the cycling coaches who gave sprinter Mark Cavendish his big break.

In 2008 he helped establish the Rapha Condor Pro Cycling Team. He's got more strings to his bow than anyone we've ever met and one day he'll hopefully write it all down in an autobiography interspersed with some of his great dinner time recipes too.

The Cheshire Ride Route

As a young boy aged about 12, he and a friend decided to ride to go for a longer cycle ride. They chose Joderel Bank, an iconic local landmark. Then rode back.
"On one of our rides to Joderel Bank, we stopped to drink some of our water and an older cyclist came up to us and asked if we would like try cycle racing, he explained about local time trials, which we both went on to do. Those races were the first of my career."

After passing the Lovell Telescope for the first time riders can continue onto Wilmslow or ride the loop again, this loop is now used by John when he does motorpacing and training pro team riders based near British Cycling's Manchester head office, the riders complete a couple of laps before heading to Wilmslow for an after ride coffee.
